Hera's Spotlight

OOOH CAMPERS! Did ya miss me? Shh.. hold the applause, I missed you all as well. Welcome back to another riveting episode of Hera's Spotlight! This week we're going to be looking at the deities of the Springtime.

What is up Campers?? Back at it with that season change but we have few lovely faces to thank for that! Is lovely an okay work to use? I’m not trying to get struck down or anything.

First up we have Persephone! You might know her as the main partner to our boy Hades. She is the goddess of spring and queen of the underworld. Two of her symbols are literally flowers and pomegranates. She’s pretty impressive.

Next up we have Flora! She is a Roman goddess of flowers, and crops, and spring as well! She’s one of the fifteen main deities who had their own priest. She has a festival, The Floralia, held in her honour, between April 28 and May 3 (so keep that in mind for the future).

Give it up for our first god on the list!  Zephyr is the god of the west wind and known as one of the more gentle winds. He is the father of two horses but that’s a story for another time. His wing ushers in the spring! Obviously or he would not be on this list.

Last but certainly not least is Chloris! Originally she was a nymph but Zephyr married her and made her into a deity of spring. Together they have a son named, Carpus, the god of fruit. You might know Chloris as the one who turned Adonis into a flower! Now THAT is impressive.

Thanks for sticking around campers, be sure to enjoy the season. we’ll see you next time!
