Hiya, everybody!
Welcome to the Makin’ it Blue craft corner where we take some of your favorite little day to day items and what do we do? Well, we teach you how to make it blue, of course! So, strap on your favorite blue apron, crank up some funky music, and get ready to check out this week’s fun collection of breakfast recipes and start makin’ it blue!
Ever thought, “I want my blueberry waffles to actually be blue”? Well, we’re here to help you make your thought a reality! It’s basically a standard blueberry waffle recipe, just add coloring!
What you need (yields 4-6 servings):
2 eggs, separated
1 ½ cups of milk
½ cup melted butter
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 tbsp sugar
1 cup blueberries, rinsed
blue food coloring
Directions!:
In a small bowl, start beating the egg whites until stiff
In another bowl, beat the eggs yolks and then add the milk and butter
Sift all of the dry ingredients together into the egg yolk bowl and mix it until smooth. Fold in all of the blueberries and add in a few drops of blue food coloring, mixing until the batter turns a nice blue.
Gently fold in the beaten egg whites, and then afterward, bake it in a waffle iron!
I’ve had these waffles once myself, and don’t be afraid to add a little more food coloring because the color is sometimes dulled after you cook it!
Whaaat? That’s a thing? You bet it is! And it’s really tasty! Forget just breakfast--you’ll want to drink this all of the time. Mmm, refreshing.
What you need (yields 1 quart / 4 servings):
Directions!:
Heat 2 cups of water with sugar until sugar dissolves, continue to heat for about 5 minutes until it starts to thicken
Add the rest of the water, juice, and zest to the mixture
Cool to room temperature
Put the blackberries and blueberries in a blender and puree
Stir berries into the lemonade, cover, and let it sit at room temperature for 2-3 hours.
Strain and chill before serving!
What’s this? You mean you’ve never had blue pancakes? Well, let’s get right on that, shall we?! As before, it is basically your standard pancake recipe, but blue! And that makes it even more delicious.
What you need (4 servings / 8 small pancakes):
Directions!:
Mix ingredients in a bowl and whisk together, adding the amount of drops of food colouring to get the right colour you are after.
Heat some butter over a medium heat and pour the mixture into the frying pan. Once the bubbles start to appear and pop on the pancakes flip over. Cook for 1 min or so on the other side.
Serve your super awesome breakfast!
Well, that’s all for this week, folks! I hope you had as much fun as I did! Be sure to pat yourself on the back for doing such a good job with your blue breakfast. Or, if you managed to burn down your kitchen or the food just turned out to be horrible, don’t sweat it! You tried something new. So dance! And get all of your jiggles out from standing so long. Until next time!
