Camper of the Month
Cassie Glendale - October 2021

Hello Camp Half-Blood! Welcome to the fourth Non-Staff Camper of the Month Interview! My name is Celeste Grayson, and I'm giving you the inside look at the camper in this month's shining spotlight!

Celeste: "Hello Cassie! Congratulations on being picked as our Camper of the Month! Why don't you tell me a bit about yourself?"

Cassie: "Well, my name is Cassie Elysia Glendale. You could just simply call me Cassie or even simpler Cass. I’m 13 years old and a Daughter of Hades. I’m from Los Angeles, brought up by my mortal mother and her husband. I love to draw, read, write, and sew dolls during my spare time. I have a passion for both art and music, most especially movies and literature. I may be extremely introverted, but I am headstrong and ambitious — a silent, independent worker just like my godly parent Hades. However, I still love meeting new people, hanging out with friends and half-siblings. I enjoy almost all my classes at Camp and let's just say I love munching on chocolate and whatever is served during breakfast time :) "

Celeste: "Well, I think we can both agree that breakfast is great any time of the day! What was your inital reaction to receiving camper of the month?"

Cassie: "Oh, I felt honored! I wasn't really expecting to earn such an award. But I'm deeply thankful to have been considered. Although I would admit, at first I wanted to tell my best friend about it, but I didn't. Can't wait to see the look on his face!"

Celeste: "I'm sure he'll be just as excited for you as I am! So Cassie, I gather you're very new to camp. What's your favorite thing about Camp Half-Blood so far?"

Cassie: " I'm glad to know how I'm enjoying my stay at Camp so far -- to the extent that I could barely pick what I love the most! But if given the chance to pick, I would come to tie. I would say the classes and the community. Firstly, I love taking the classes here, because I feel like every class I take helps me understand further where I am coming from as a demigod; it's like these classes are somewhat pieces of a puzzle that I have yet to put together in order to learn who I am and discover my potential. After all, I feel like we could all relate to that since our godly parents had abandoned us and left us to seek answers on our own. And second, I love the community -- I love my friends, half-siblings, and even my Instructors. I love taking classes with them, going to different places, hanging around at Camp, and all that. If classes are pieces of the puzzle that I have to put together to further understand who I am, the Camp Half-Blood community helps glue them in place. I hope that makes sense. That's personally what I feel, that is why Camp Half-Blood has become my home. Not only do I stay here to train and fulfill my destiny, but the fact that I'm surrounded by people who are no different from me is such a blessing given that I have lived my life thinking that being different was a burden, a liability. The more I stay in Camp, the more I have become aware of my reason, and that being different is my own version of strength and I could use that in the long run. "

Celeste: "I couldn't help but notice that you've earned many points during your short stay at camp! How have you stayed motivated to earn points for your cluster?"

Cassie: "Since I am enjoying my stay at Camp, it's only natural for me to keep earning points to bring glory to my Cluster. And I'm normally the kind of person who, if I see that certain goals could be attainable by me, I set out and for them until I end up surprising myself with the results. But personally, being a Hades kid, I rather sit in the background since I'm not the kind to seek nor enjoy attention, however being an independent worker just like my dad, as well as being inspired by my half-siblings, best friends, and even my Instructors has helped me attain something purely out of my comfort zone. And I'm just glad that all has worked out pretty well! Now I'm starting anew, with a school year to look forward to. "

Celeste: "Well I'm sure you're Instructors will be very excited to hear that! Give me your loudest and proudest cluster spirit cheer!"

Cassie: ""AAAAAAAAAA!!! LET'S GO, MY FELLOW GHOSTIES!! IT'S US OR THEM! WE CAN BEAT THEM BECAUSE WE ARE MYSTERIOUS, SNEAKY AND SLY!!! C'MON, LET'S BRING HOME POINTS TOGETHER!!!"

The following is entirely OOG.

Celeste: "Why do you love World of Olympians?"

Cassie: "So many reasons! But I love it primarily because it serves as an escape from the real world. I'm handling both school and work, and coming back here gives me this sort of reason to wake up every day, and the energy to go through each day. I know it might sound a bit cliche and questionable to have so many priorities in real life and could still contribute so much to this game, well, it's primarily because of the enjoyment I get from getting to be myself around here after spending most of my hours in the real world trying to be normal, or that idea of "normal" according to the real world. And the community in WoO makes me feel so at home just as the books have, and you could say that WoO has helped bring the world of Rick Riordan's books to life since I could engage with people who had enjoyed his books and love imagining themselves to be in a place as Camp Half-Blood."

Celeste: "It has come to my attention you’ve been recently hired as a member of the Chronicle Team! How are you enjoying your new job? Would you recommend your friends to apply for a student job as well?"

Cassie: "Absolutely! I would highly recommend it. It's been such a wonderful experience so far, I get to interact with other campers a bit more than I have already. Being a Hades kid and all, I'm very introverted, and taking part in the Chronicle Team has given me the opportunity to put myself out there and help my fellow campers, most especially with something that I'm good at. I love writing and analyzing stories, character developments, backstories -- anything that makes me learn more about my fellow campers and where they are coming from. It's been a blast because I have promised myself that this year will be different. A new Cassie for a new year at Camp, and it makes me even happier, knowing that I keep surprising myself with everything I do!"
