Borders & Boundaries
Who am I?

No, I'm not the Daphne who was a lover of Apollo. I live in the forest and know the camp by heart. So let me take you on a tour around and tell you all about camp!
Camp Guide: Daphne

Issue #1
Hey there, wandering demigod! My name is Daphne, and I'm a wood nymph from the forest. Today, I will be taking you around our camp's borders.

Camp Half-blood's borders are basically magical defenses. There is no place safer for demigods than Camp Half-blood. How are the borders so strong? It began with demigod Thalia Grace's sacrifice. Before she could pass away, Zeus turned her into a pine tree which provided the camp protection with her life essence. When her tree was compromised, the powerful Golden Fleece healed the tree and strengthened the barrier magic. You may have also seen the 40-foot tall Athena Parthenos statue — a reminder of peace between the Greek and Roman demigods. The statue is infused with Athena's power that also enhances the protective borders.

Now what do our borders do exactly?
  1. It keeps mortals away. Mortals would only see a strawberry field beyond the borders. Did you know that the camp's cover is actually Delphi Strawberry Services? We do actually sell strawberries! No, the gods don't shoulder our camp expenses.
  2. The border maintains good weather inside the premises — perfect for all the daily training! Of course, it's all good unless some god is being moody and decides to punish the camp with hailstorms or landslides.
  3. It protects us from monsters. Monsters are strongly attracted to the smell of demigods. Unfortunately, while monsters cannot get in on their own, they can still be summoned from the inside. So please, dear demigods, just don't, especially if you're only *bored*.
While we're all safe inside camp, what do we do if we see someone or something outside our borders?
  1. A mortal is checking out the camp. Don't worry, all they see are strawberries. Leave it to the Mist.
  2. It could be a monster lurking about. Please ignore them. If there is an army of monsters on our doorstep, then the Camp is likely under attack. Call for help.
  3. If a wounded demigod is arriving, you better accompany them to the infirmary. It also helps to know first aid and have emergency ambrosia in your pocket at all times as they could be seriously injured. You can learn this from Medical Training!
  4. A new and inexperienced demigod you never met is fighting a strong monster all by himself! Do you step outside the barriers to come to their aid?
  5. Finally, if what you see is really strange or suspicious, and your demigod senses are wildly ~tingling~, then it's most likely trouble. Run back, and report to the Camp Director.
I hope you learned a lot about our camp's borders. Please join me next time as we tour and learn more about Camp Half-Blood! Is there someplace in camp you'd like to know more about? Let me know below and let's explore camp together!

Love,
Daphne
