Hera's Spotlight

OOOH CAMPERS! Did ya miss me? Shh.. hold the applause, I missed you all as well. Welcome back to another riveting episode of Hera's Spotlight! This week we're going to be looking at the deities of the Holiday, Valentines.

What is up campers?! We’re back at it again with that fat naked baby Cupid! Though let’s be real, he’s the Roman depiction of my boy Eros and he’s definitely not a fat naked baby! My boy turned heads since he was the child of Aphrodite and Ares.

You all know Aphrodite! Some of her kids are here now! Lovely goddess, she is! And I’m not just saying that because she’s the beautiful goddess of love. Now, Eros isn’t her only kid obviously. The others are known as the Erotes: Anteros (requited love), Himeros (unrequited love), Hedylogos (flattery), Hermaphroditus (feminity), Hymen (marriage and weddings), and Pothos (sexual desire).

Now, I mentioned my boy turned heads, right? Well, I wasn’t kidding. He especially turned the head of Psyche, goddess of the soul. She’s kinda a big deal when you consider that she started out human but was so beautiful that people started worshipping her instead of Aphrodite. Kinda funny how that works, huh? Mumsy locks her away in a tower and Eros ends up marrying her!

But hey, if Valentine’s Day isn’t your thing, don’t sweat it! There’s always the festival of Lupercalia instead! Sure, it was to ward off evil spirits but some people think of Cupid as an arrow flinging evil cherub!

Either way, save me some chocolate or get it half off tomorrow!
