Cassandra's Comic Chats #1 Dinah Lance; Black Canary
Hello Campers, Cassandra here. I am starting a new article and it’s something I’m excited to have the opportunity to share with you all. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. I’m sharing one of my many passions with you, which just so happens to be characters from comic books. In this series, I have decided to write about characters that will fall in either the good, the bad or the morally questionable. Naturally, for the first article I have to write about my all time favorite superhero, the one who holds a place so dear to my heart and that is none other than the beautiful and talented Black Canary, also known as Dinah Lance.

She was first introduced in the All-Star Comics #42 - The Man Who Hated Science which was first published in 1948 and since then she has shown up in various comic books, tv shows and even in the Birds of Prey movie. She has in fact shown up in a total of 3,156 (and counting) comic books ranging from the Batman series, Justice League and even Green Arrow.

But who is Dinah Lance? She has several titles, some of which consist of: the daughter of Dinah Drake, partner of Green Arrow (and lover), and ultimately the Black Canary, a title held by her mother as well.

Her most known ability is the canary cry, which is a super sonic scream that is believed to have been caused from a metagene. If hit by the scream, it is able to not only stun people and objects, but it is also able to damage them as well. Her sonic scream is able to go up to 300 decibels and is said to even be able to damage metal.

However, the canary cry is not the only talent she has. Dinah Lance is skilled in martial arts and was trained by Wildcat, who was formerly known as the heavyweight champion of the world at the time. He taught her boxing and at least four types of martial arts.

Other teachers of hers were Richard Dragon, Batgirl, various members of the Justice League and even Wonder Woman (Diana Prince, who looks suspiciously a lot like Eowynn MacKenzie, has anyone ever noticed that?).

Some of the people she has faced and beaten in a fight are, but not limited to: Huntress, Superboy, Green Lantern, Cheshire and even Superman himself.

All in all, she is a force to be reckoned with, for sure, but she’s also someone who is confident and a good role model to have and I’m glad to have the opportunity to tell people about her. And while I could ultimately write hundreds of more words about her, I think it’d be better to end it here with a quote of hers below.

Stay tuned to see who the next article will be written about! Also if you comment on this article, you'll get a special something sent your way ;)
"So you're just going to let them take over. Is that it? Why don't you just give them the keys to your cars... your houses. Maybe then they'll leave you alone... but I wouldn't count on it. If you don't stand up and fight for what's yours... you won't have anything left worth fighting for."
