For article #2 of Cassandra’s comic chats, I am doing another one of my personal favorites. But worry not, I see and will do each of your suggestions in due time. This week’s focus is on a fishnet wearing magician that does spells backwards. How cool is that? If it doesn’t ring a bell, I am referring to none other than Zatanna Zatara!

She is the daughter of famous magician Giovanni ‘John’ Zatara and Sindella. Her first appearance in media was in 1964 in Hawkman #4 - The Girl Who Split in Two!; The Machine that Magnetized Men! (that’s a bit of a mouthful of a title, isn’t it?) and since then has made appearances in various comics such as Justice League, Batman, Supergirl, the Flash and MANY other well known comic entities. If you’re curious about how many comics she has been in, I have the answer to that as well! 1,615 is the number of comics Zatanna has been, throwing spells and mystic mayhem wherever she goes! She has also been in some tv shows as well such as the animated Young Justice League as well as Smallville. She’s even been in many animated DC movies as well. Maybe in the future we’ll even see her in live action in a movie (a girl can dream).

Her abilities are what she is known for! She is quite easily known as the most powerful magic wielding person of all DC. With her magic, it gives her the opportunity to have access to various types of powers. Some of these are, but not limited to, pyrokinesis, aerokinesis, hydrokinesis and many others. It’s safe to assume that if you can think of it, odds are there is probably a spell for it. Flight, weather control, illusion casting? Been there, done that and so much more!

When it comes to people Zatanna is heavily associated with, you can put John Constatine and Bruce Wayne in that category, both of which I plan to discuss in later blogs of Cassandra’s comic chats.

I definitely recommend checking out Zatanna Zatara! She is the embodiment of girl power!
