Sinterklaas, also known as Sint-Nicolaas, is a holiday that is celebrated by the Dutch on December 5th every year. It is based on a legendary figure called Saint Nicholas who is the patron saint of children. In a way, a patron saint could kinda be like a god, don’t you think? Anyways, I digress. Other names that Saint Nicholas is known by are De Sint (The Saint), De Goede Sint (The Good Saint) and De Geodheiligman (The Good Holy man).
Sinterklaas and his companion, Zwarte Piet, deliver gifts to children on the eve of St Nicholas’ Eve. Then, on the morning after, the children get to open them!
The countries that celebrate the holiday are The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Western Germany, Northern France and Hungary. However, it is not limited to just these particular countries. In fact, places such as Aruba are known to celebrate as well. Does this sound like something you’ll be adding to the calendar to celebrate with the family?
We can have our very own miniature camp version of Sinterklaas as well! However, due to budget cuts, we weren’t able to find a Saint Nicholas BUT we were able to find a Saint Cass who will deliver each and every one of you all a special present for when you wake up and log onto site. All you have to do is comment down below to participate in the first of our many holiday planned events. Be sure to be on the lookout!
