Camper of the Month
Charlie Rogue - July 2021

Hello Camp Half-Blood! Welcome to the first ever Non-Staff Camper of the Month Interview! My name is Celeste Grayson, and I'm giving you the inside look at the camper in this month's shining spotlight!

Celeste: "Hello Charlie! Thank you for agreeing to meet with me! As Camper of the Month, I have a few questions for you. Let's start with the basics. Tell me a little bit about yourself!"

Charlie: "About myself? I have unhealthy obsessions. Well, mainly three. Chipotle. Lord of the Rings. Brooklyn 99... and Jake Peralta but that's subsectioned under Brooklyn 99. I also have six spirit animals, one of which is Robert Downey Junior- oh you want actual... actual things? Basic? Hmm, alright then. Well, for one I'm 12 and in my second year. Godly parent Demeter, Nature cluster, blah blah blah. Though if you ask me what I think about camp, I'd say it's home. And trust me, it really is. Granted the screaming people 24/7 isn't exactly... a pleasant thing but that just adds to the entire Camp Half-Blood experience. Random flour falling from trees. Rocks falling from trees. Balloons falling from trees. People falling from trees. And... trees. But honestly even if it does take a while to get used to, there's no where else I'd rather be."

Celeste: "Aww, well I believe I speak on the behalf of the entire camp when I say we are so happy to have you around! I bet you were quite shocked to learn you were chosen as camper of the month, weren't you?"

Charlie: "I may or may not have choked on hypothetical water. Really. Ask anyone around me when I received it. It was a... questionable reaction, to say the least. I mean at least now I can nail a trumpet impression. Next time someone asks you what your favourite instrument is don't be afraid to say 'a Charlie.' After that it was more of me forgetting how to breathe while being incredibly honoured. And that led to me screaming quiet shouts of joy which was basically 99% exhaling and 1% a lovechild between wheezing and whispering."

Celeste: You said earlier that you're a second year correct?

Charlie: "Yup, second year. Deux. Two... nos. I can't do languages at all. Honestly though the temptation to just fly to a world where I'm in, what, seventh year just so I can take all the courses. Including Astronomy, I've always had a love for the sky and all it holds."

Celeste: Well, have you made a lot of friends during your stay at camp?

Charlie: "Ooh, friends? What're friends? I'm kidding, yeah. Like I said before, the people here are my family. Especially those I'm close with but even then I'd consider even 'enemies' at camp 'family'. We're all like one... chaotic screaming family. Family count three- nevermind, four. We'll all have each others' backs no matter our relationship with a specific person. Even those who just arrived. They set a foot here, they're family. As far as I've seen, even if there are people who aren't exactly the most... fond of another, we're all still incredibly supportive. Somewhat. I mean, we have our ways of showing it for sure. So I wouldn't simply keep it to friends. Family's more accurate at the end of the day. Family count... seven."

Celeste: "I guess you could say we're all one big, happy, dysfunctional family here at camp! Say, I was passing by the cluster point tally and couldn't help but notice you're first on the leaderboard for earning your cluster points! What kept you motivated to earn all those points this year? Do you have any point-earning tips for your fellow campers?"

Charlie: "Oh... oh? OH right. Bit slow right now, granted when am I not. Sorry 'bout that, but points. Motivation... I'd say one of the main things is the fact that Nature's never won the Cluster cup. So why not try to make us all proud and try to get us a win? That along with the people in general being encouraging for really everyone. As for tips: do.your.homework. Always do your homework. If it helps, I tell you that the assignments are a joy to do along with the lovely Instructors making it all ever more enjoyable. And also daily grading. Yes, I've fallen behind on grading around the middle of the year but I'm tryna pick up my habit of that again and I suggest y'all do it too. Even then, reading others' assignments alone is something I've always loved especially when it's clear how passionate they are about a subject."

Celeste: "Aww, well I can agree with you on that one! We are definitely lucky to have such fantastic Instructors here at camp. I have one last request of you Charlie. Show some cluster spirit!"

Charlie: "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH GO NATURE, MY LEAFY FELLOWS. Y'ALL ARE AMAZING (granted everyone's amazing), YA GOT THIS, YA GOT EVERYTHING, YA RULE YOUR WORLD, LOVE YOU ALL!"

Celeste: "Thank you Charlie!"

The following is entirely OOG.

Celeste: "Why do you love World of Olympians?"

Charlie: "Why do I love World of Olympians? That question... all the things I can list and even then we'll be here forever. And that's no lie nor is it an exaggeration. Just the truth. But one thing that can basically sum up my love for this place is the people. A single word from someone on here can have me smiling. Every single day is made because of everyone here, even if I just woke up minutes ago. The loving community. The willingness to help out one another and even then just the chat alone being chaotic as always. Just like Charlie, this place became a second home for me. A second family. I'll never give it up for anything and no one can ever know just how thankful I am that I've stumbled across this place. All the people who've taught me oh such valuable things and the hearts and souls I'll treasure for life.

Through everything there was always someone here who had a seat at a table for me. There was always someone who would listen and even more who are willing to help anyone in any way they can no matter what it is. It's just... it's like a safe haven for me, y'know? I can get on here with no worry. Not even a single tug of anxiousness is needed, long abandoned as I get on here even if it had only been a minute. Every day I go on laughing my head off with every smile on my face true because of everyone here. I don't have to put up a façade on here.

Especially my Brooklyn 99 and Lord of the Rings and Chipotle obsessions. I have no fear to express them as much as I want because, well, chat explains it all. Granted, I have no fear in general because, well, the people here are... them. Chaotic people that I love dearly. I can't ask for anything else. And dear lord what I'd do without WoO. Without the people. Without everyone I've met on here. Because I'm not lying when I say that WoO changed my life and that I definitely wouldn't be who I am right now without y'all. That everyone here made up the best of my life so far and how much I love every single person here. How appreciative I am for each of their minds.

All the tears I've shed here. All the joy I've felt. All the memories I've made (I know call me cheesy). I know I've said it before, but I can't ask for anything more."
